Linear automatically archives completed issues for you to keep your workspace clear of clutter. Use delete to remove issues from your workspace permanently.
How to archive issues
Linear automatically archives completed issues, projects and cycles.
Completed issues will be auto-archived after 1-12 months depending on your auto-archive settings. Configure this in your team's workflow settings and learn more about the feature in Auto-close and Auto-archive.
Projects and cycles will be archived immediately after all of their issues have been archived. Note that archiving issues from cycles and projects removes the issue and its associated data from analytics calculations.
How to restore archived issues
To restore an issue from the archive, open the issue and then click on the
Restore from Archive
button. While an issue is archived, you can still copy its link, issue ID and git branch name.Finding and viewing archived issues
View your team's archived issues, projects and cycles from the sidebar or by typing
G
then X
. To keep the app speedy, archived issues are loaded on demand rather than stored in the client, so you may find the issues load a little slower on this page than elsewhere in the app. How to delete issues
Delete issues with the keyboard shortcut
Cmd/Ctrl
Delete/Backspace
. Recently deleted items will be permanently deleted after 14 days. To view or restore a recently deleted issue, go to the view with G
then T
or open the command line and type deleted
to find the view. Permanently deleted issues are not recoverable so use this feature carefully.Workaround: Hiding completed issues
In the past, it was possible to auto-archive individual issues and this was sometimes used to declutter board views with long Done columns. To manage this moving forward we recommend one of the following workarounds:
- Configure view options to only show completed issues from the past week, project or current cycle.
- Create a new completed workflow status, hide it, then move issues to that workflow status to remove them from view.
